Frequently asked questions
Reverse billing (also called reverse invoicing) flips the usual roles: instead of the supplier sending an invoice, the buyer creates it and sends it back to the supplier for payment. This approach is common in logistics, wholesale, and other B2B relationships where the buyer already holds accurate delivery, quantity, or rate data.
In a reverse billing arrangement, both the customer and supplier agree upfront on the contract terms, including pricing and invoicing responsibilities. Rather than waiting for the supplier to issue an invoice, the customer calculates what’s owed based on the agreed rates and generates the invoice themselves.
The supplier then reviews and approves the invoice, after which the customer processes the payment. This method is particularly effective in industries with complex supplier networks or high transaction volumes.
Creating the invoice yourself helps reduce errors, speed up reconciliation, and ensure billing consistency across your network. It’s especially useful when working with multiple subcontractors or partners on contract rates.
